Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The department was established in 2003 with an aim for providing surgical care at an affordable cost in the Oral & Maxillofacial region. The dept. has a floor space of approx. 7000 Sq ft for out patients, Exodontia and minor surgical work.

Facilities

Major surgeries are performed in Mamata General and Super Speciality Hospital which is a 780 bed Multi Specialty teaching Hospital of the Mamata Medical College.. The state-of-the-art facilities include 12 Operation Theatres, a Post Operative Ward, Acute Medical Care Unit, Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU), and Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) besides super specialties like Cardiology & Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology & Urology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery & Transfusion Medicine Departments.

Exclusive Operation Theater and male and female wards are provided in the adjacent specialty hospital. The department conducts a variety of surgeries:

Objectives

  1. To obtain proper clinical history, methodical examination of the patient, perform essential diagnostic procedures and other relevant laboratory tests and interpret them and to arrive at a reasonable diagnosis about the surgical condition.
  2. To perform with competence minor oral surgical procedures and common maxillofacial surgery. To treat both medically and surgically (or by other means of the oral and maxillofacial and the related area)
  3. Capable of providing care for maxillofacial surgery patients.
  4. Develop adequate communication skills particularly with the patients giving them the various options available to manage particular surgical problems and obtain a true informed consent from them for the most appropriate treatment available at that point of time.
  5. Develop the ability to communicate with professional colleagues.
  6. Develop ability to teach undergraduates.
  7. Develop ability to undertake research work independently.
